Meet the New GFW Middle School and High School Principal

A familiar face to the GFW community has been announced as the next principal of GFW Middle School and High School. Erin Jacobson, a Winthrop resident, former elementary teacher, instructional coach, and literacy coach began her duties as principal on July 1, 2023 and will bring a depth of knowledge and experience to the position.

Jacobson most recently served as a Lead Instructional Coach for the Education and Innovation Research grant in partnership with SWWC Service Cooperative and the New Teacher Center. She worked with member districts to provide coaching and resources while working directly with interventionists and instructional coaches at districts including GFW. She served as Director of Teaching and Learning in the Redwood Area School District and has more than 15 years of experience in the classroom, including at GFW Elementary School.

“I am most excited about working with the great team of administrators and teachers at GFW,” said Jacobson. “The collaboration and responsibilities that we take on together will prove to have a great impact on students, not only academically but in providing the skills and tools that are so essential to their success no matter what path they choose.”

Erin earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, a masters degree in Teaching and Learning from Minnesota State University-Mankato, and an Educational Leadership Specialist degree and Administrative Licensure. She also has extensive leadership experience, serving eight and a half years in the South Dakota and Minnesota National Guard, including as Public Affairs Detachment Commander, earning various awards during her service. She resigned her commission as an officer in 2006 and continued to pursue her passion of education.

“We are so excited to have Principal Jacobson join our team,” said Superintendent Horton. “She has great experience in mentorship, coaching, and using best practices to bring the best out of every teacher and student. Her skills are exactly what we were looking for as we continue our mission of growing future world class leaders.”

Erin’s husband Ryan is a teacher in the district and their two children attend GFW High School.
