The GFW School Board held a regular meeting on Monday, May 19. A summary of the meeting is below.

Abatement Bond Public Hearing
Steve Pumper from PMA Financial presented on the issuance of $1,950,000 tax abatement bonds for Parking Lot Improvements over 10 years, with an estimated $14 annual tax increase for a $175,000 home. Agricultural land would benefit from the Ag2School credit covering 70% of the tax. The board is considering approving the parameters resolution with a timeline including bond pricing around June 4th and also discussed authorizing participation in the state credit enhancement program to potentially lower interest rates.
There was public comments and discussion about the proposal and possible alternatives, impacts, and benefits. The board approved a parameters resolution in support of the bond sale and will give final approval at their June meeting.
Superintendent’s Report
Dr. Smith shared updates about all of the events that are happening at the end of the school year. There have been student performances, art shows, and sporting events going on and graduation is coming up on May 31. Seniors will be parading through the schools on the last day of school and are looking forward to graduation.
He also shared that the district received a grant that is part of the funding source for eight positions in the district and encouraged board members to take advantage of board member training sessions.
