Superintendent’s Report

Superintendent Berg shared that it has been a busy time with all students under the same roof but that it’s been a great transition. He also shared updates from his recent visit to St. Paul to speak with legislators about mandates and budget issues caused by legislation. Changes with funding and mandates including free and reduced lunch applications and inflationary increases, as well as funding for special education services. GFW is planning to be as present as possible in St. Paul with other districts to advocate for funding to be maintained.

GFW is also working with MnDOT to educate students about safe driving as part of the commitment to road safety for the community. The auction of items at the old elementary school went very well with about $130,000 in revenue coming in that will be used to offset some of the budget reductions. A pipe also burst in the Winthrop building which caused some damage that is being assessed.

Negotiations have also wrapped with our teacher and Local 284 unions with a great process and important conversations. He also shared that Dashir has seen a lot of transitions with employees leaving which has led to discussions around bringing those services in house and adding the use of autonomous robots that would handle floor cleaning in the building.
